While john is traveling along a straight interstate highway, he notices that the mile marker reads 260. John travels until he reaches the 150-mile marker and the retraces his path to the 175-mile marker. What is Johns displacement from the 260-mile marker?

Answer:

65 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

The distance travelled till 150 miles is

260 - 150 = 90

But as he walks back although his distance increase his displacement from initial point decrease.

Distance moved from 150 mile post to 175 mile post is

175 - 150 = 25

As he walks backwards in second time in consideration with first time to calculate the displacement we need to substract 90 from 25,

So displacement is 65 miles
