Proving theorems gives you a reason why mathematics works the way it does.

Explanation:

If you can sit and prove why something works the way it does, then when you're solving something and you say "I need to equal x to y" and you know that because of a theorem that if x=y then y=x then you can effectively work backwards.

I fell in love with proving theorems in geometry. :)
