Explanation:

Total number of students = 36

Let us consider number of males is 'x' and number of females is ' y'

Therefore x = y + 8

So, y +8 + y = 36

2 y +8 = 36

∴ 2 y = 36 - 8

2 y = 28

∴ y =
(28)/(2)

y = 14

so x = 14 + 8

= 22

x = 22 and y = 14

so the number of males = 22 and number of females = 14
