Answer:lincoln argued that he was helping because ofb. self-interest.

Step-by-step explanation:

Lincoln had just talked to Baker on their

way in the wagon saying people's good and evil deeds are driven by selfishness. Now when he sees mother pig struggling to get out her piglet from the mud , he stops the wagon and get out to remove them one by one , when Baker asks is that also an act of selfishness.

Lincoln's response is yes it is because him helping the piglets was so that he can have a peace of mind otherwise this if he passed this would have haunted him.

Self-interest refers to being focused on your own interest or needs in this case according to Lincoln he needed to have peace of mind.

Philosophers refers to this as a psychological egoism in which people are motivated to help only because they want to maximise their own pleasure whilst minimising pain.

Like when we help someone in need mostly we know we would be recognised so it may be driven by a a desire to be recognised and that is based on self interest.
