It is absolutely impossible for the United Sates to isolate itself from European affairs.

After WWII and during the Cold War, the security of the United States became so closely linked with European security and general prosperity. NATO was created to confront a common threat, the Soviet Union. It still exists to provide common security to all members.

Some recent events are good examples of the close links between the USA and Europe:

- The Russian occupation of Crimea, taking it from Ukraine;

- NATO missions in Afghanistan and Iraq;

- Nukes were going to be deployed by the Obama administration in Poland and Czech Republic, though those plans were later cancelled;

- Common US-European actions in Syria.
