At this stage the body is trying to make up for the physcal changes that occured during the alarm reaction stage. It is controls by parasympathetic branch of ANS which fights to restore the body by decreasing the cortisol amount. Slowly the heart rate and blood pressure are going back to its original state.

If what ever situation which had caused stress is over the body is restored during this stage however if it isn't over the body is kept alert and cortisol is continuously produced.
