Kamala had 5,026 grams of flour in a canister. She bought a 4,157 gram bag of flour. She poured some flour from the bag to the canister. As a result, the mass of the flour in the canister is now twice the mass of the flour left in the bag. How much flour is in the bag now?

Answer:

Mass of flour left in the bag =
3061\ grams\\

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of flour in a canister= 5,026 grams

Mass of flour in the bag = 4,157 grams

Let the mass poured from the bag to the canister =
x \ \ grams

New mass of flour in canister =
(5,026+x) \ \ grams

Mass of flour left in bag =
(4,157-x)/ / grams

New mass of flour in canister is twice the mass of flour left in bag

\therefore \ \ 5026+x=2(4157-x)\\

Using distribution.

\\5026+x=8314-2x\\

Adding both sides with
2x.

\\5026+x+2x=8314-2x+2x\\5026+3x=8314\\

Subtracting both sides with
5026.\\

5026-5026+3x=8314-5026\\3x=3288\\

Dividing both sides by
3.\\

(3)/(3) x=(3288)/(3) \\x=1096\ grams\\

Mass of flour poured in the canister =
1096\ grams

Mass of flour left in the bag =
4,157-1096= 3061\ grams\\
