Explanation:

Let x be quarters and since Jorge has 10 more dimes than quarters you can say x + 10. 25 is the quarters and the 10 is the dimes.

25x + 10(x+10) = 240

25x + 10x + 100 = 240

35x = 140

x = 4

Multiply 4 and 0.25 and you get 1.00. Subtract 1.00 from 2.40 to get 1.40. Divide that by 10 (amount of dime) to get 14.
