Answer: 13.33 gallons of water

Explanation:

In a certain state a hospital is required to use 3% bleach to clean dishes. Let the volume of the bleach used

We are having a 20 gallons of 5% bleach. This concentration is higher than what the hospital required. We want to dilute it with water to reduce the concentration of the bleach from 5% to 3%.

To do this,we use the formula,

C1V1 = C2V2

C1, initial concentration of the bleach

= 5% = 5/100 = 0..05

V1 = initial volume of the mixture =20 gallons

C2 , final concentration of the bleach

= 3% = 3/100 = 0.03

V2 = final volume of the mixture in gallons

0.05 × 20 = 0.03 × V2

1 = 0.03V2

V2 = 1/0.03 = 33.33 gallons of mixture

Amount of water = 33.33 - 20 gallons of bleach = 13.33 gallons of water
