Answer:

The CIA is the Central Intelligence Agency. The Agency's role in Guatemala was training an army that invaded Guatemala, and its role in the U-2 incident was making secret high-altitude flights over Soviet territory.

Fearful of the spread of communism in Guatemala, President Eisenhower approved a CIA operation ("PBSUCCESS") to provide weapons and financing to paramilitary groups ousted by President Arbenz. [8] CIA agent Howard Hunt has been hired as an orchestrator for the propaganda campaign to “rid Guatemala of the Arbenz regime” .

On July 2, 1954, with the US-backed coup d'état, Colonel Carlos Castillo Armas took the place of the then democratically elected president Jacobo Arbenz. In September of the same year, Castillo Armas was hailed by Nixon as the president of Guatemala.

U-2 Incident

On May 1, 1960, a US U-2 spy plane was shot down by the Soviets as it flew over the Ural Mountains at 19,000 meters.

Americans, according to preliminary intelligence reports, believed the pilot was dead. They claimed it was a routine flight. Shortly after, on May 7, they open the game and make public the situation of their prisoner and his confessions. Gary Powers would be sentenced to ten years in prison. Later, in 1962, he would be exchanged for a Soviet spy service agent.
