Answer:

The one of the worst infectious disease outbreaks in history was cholera.

Step-by-step explanation:

The USA had three serious epidemies of cholera, which is an intestinal infection. It happened between 1832 and 1866, the pandemic began in India, and swiftly spread across the globe through trade routes. New York City was usually the first city to be infected. They estimated that two to six americans died per day during the outbreak. The end of cholera's outbreak is unclear, but researchers believe that it was related to quarantines or climate changes. The last cholera outbreak in USA was in 1911, the scientists found out that the effective treatment included antibiotics, zinc supplementation and rehydration.

Nowadays, 130.000 people dies every year all over the globe because of the disease. It has not been erradicated yet, but with modern sewage and water treatment, some countries are cholera free now. Unfortunately, some african countries and other underdeveloped countries still have the virus present there.

So the CDC recommends vaccines for those who intend to travel to high risk areas, and to wash hands regularly with soap and water, and only drinking mineral bottled water.
