So, the cost price of k newspapers = k times $1.50 = 1.50 k

Printers fee = $450

Now, total cost of printing k papers = Printing Fee + Cost price of k papers

= $450 + $ 1.50k = 450 + 1.50k

Selling price of each paper = $3

SO, the cost price of k newspapers = k times $3 = 3 k

Now, to break even TOTAL COST = TOTAL SELLING PRICE

or, 450 + 1.50k = 3k

or, 450 = 3k - 1.50k

⇒ 1.5 k = 450

or, k = 450 /1.5 = 300

k = 300

Hence, 300 copies of the newsletter must be sold to break even.
