We skated on ice that was a smooth as silk
What figurative language is that?

If a bit of figurative language uses ‘like’ or ‘as’, it is a simile. Other types of figurative language are personification, metaphors, hyperbole, and irony. Personification is when you give an object human traits.
Ex: It seemed that the ocean was calling out to me.
‘Calling’ is the clue word that shows it is personification, because an ocean cannot call someone. Calling is the human trait we have given the ocean in that sentence.

A metaphor is a way of describing something as if it were something else.
Ex: Life is a breeze.
Clearly, life isn’t a breeze. A breeze is a type of wind. Using the metaphor, ‘Life is a breeze,’ is a way to express that your life is easy.

A hyperbole is great exaggeration.
Ex: I haven’t eaten all day. I’m starving!
If you haven’t eaten all day, you would be hungry, but you are nowhere near starving yet. The word ‘starving’ exaggerates the fact that you are hungry.

Irony is the use of words that are the opposite of the situation.
Ex: Oh great, the food is burnt!
‘Oh great’ is the irony of this sentence. If your food was burnt, you would say ‘oh great!’

Hoped this helped you!!
