Ava bought a 250-ml bottle of concentrated

cleaner. It must be mixed with water in a 1:7
ratio before it can be used. She plans to mix it
in a 400-ml spray bottle.
a) How much cleaner does Ava need to add to
the bottle before she fills it with water?

Explanation:

Ratio of cleaner : water = 1:7

This means that the total ratio;(water+cleaner) = 1+7 = 8

Find fraction of each item out of the total ratio of 8;

Fraction of water =
(7)/(8)

Fraction of cleaner =
(1)/(8)

Knowing the fractions, find the quantity of cleaner in ml out of a total of 400-ml;

Cleaner = (1/8 )*400 = 50ml

Therefore, Ava needs to add 50ml of cleaner.
