(57)/(100)

Explanation:

  1. Understand the decimal System: Each place to the right of the decimal is a magnitude of 1/10th the value as the unit next to it. Therefore 0.57 has three places each with a corresponding unit: 1, 1/10, 1/100
  2. Use the decimal System to convert to a set of fractions: The 1s place has a zero, so it is 0 * 1. The second place has a scalar of 1/10 and a magnitude of 5 so that is 5* 1/10 = 5/10 or 1/2. To make it easier let's not simplify until the end and keep the denominator as a multiple of 10. The last place has a scalar of 1/100 and a magnitude of 7 so that is 7*1/100 or 7/100.
  3. Now you add all these fractions up: You need to find the common denominator which can be found this time by taking your largest denominator since they are all multiples of 10. Our largest is 100, so we rewrite all of our fractions into fractions of 100. Then we add them all up.

  4. (5)/(10) * (10)/(10) = (50)/(100) \\ \\ (50)/(100) + (7)/(100) = (57)/(100)
  5. We finally check of it can be simplified: It cannot be simplified since we know the only factors of it are 1 and 57, or 13 and 19. Neither of which can divide 100 evenly. So our answer remains:

  6. (57)/(100)
