is a disease of the nervous system which is characterized by the demyelination of the brain and spinal cord nerve cells progressively.
Due to the
demyelination
, there is a lack of coordinated communication amongst the various parts of the body as the nerve impulses get disrupted and hence, there is impairment of sensory perception, as well as motor coordination along with other symptoms such as mental and psychiatric problems.
Along with the demyelination, there is further destruction of the oligodendrocytes which further contributes to the severity of the disease.
Currently, there is no definite cure for the disease.
