control group:people not exposed. people with placebo. being used for comparison

independent variable: thing being tested

dependent variable: outcome of study

An independent variable is something that doesn’t have to rely on the dependent variable (it stands alone). The dependent variable needs something to rely on. A control group is the cause and effect of the independent and dependent variable.
