You are standing on a large sheet of frictionless ice and holding a large rock. In order to get off the ice, you throw the rock so it has velocity 12.0 m/s relative to the earth at an angle of 35.0∘ above the horizontal. Your mass is 63.0 kg and the rock’s mass is 2.00 kg.

Answer:speed = 0.3247m/s

Step-by-step explanation:

Your mass = 63.0kg

rock's mass = 2.00kg

Velocity if the rock = 12.0m/s

Angle = 35°

The horizontal component of the rock is therefore;

12.0m/s X (cos 35) = 10.23m/s

Horizontal component of the momentum of the rock is (2.0kg) (10.23m/s) = 20.46 kgm/s

The magnitude of your momentum is is equals to the horizontal component of the rock as you are not pushed off or sinked into the ice.

Your speed is therefore;

20.46kgm/s/63.0kg

= 0.3247m/s
