This question was a concept question on my physics test.

"Two identical stones are dropped from rest and feel no airresistance as they fall. Stone A is dropped from height h, andstone B is dropped from height 2h. If stone A takes time t to reachthe ground, Stone b will take time:
a. 2t
b. t/2
c. 4t
d. t/sqrt(2)
e. sqrt(2)*t"

Answer:

t√2.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that both are rest at initial position.

The time taken by stone A is t

h= 1/2 g t² ----------1

Lets time taken by stone B is t'

2 h= 1/2 g t'² -----------2

From equation 1 and 2

2 h= 1/2 g t'²

2 x 1/2 g t² = 1/2 g t'²

t'²=2 t²

t' = t√2

So the answer is t√2.

e. sqrt(2) .t
