How did Renaissance artists create oil paintings?

Artists grind different things into a powder to make colors and mix it with egg yolks and oil.

Artists mix only small amounts of paint at a time because oil paint can't be stored.

Oil paint is very smooth but dries slowly, so artists create rich, glowing colors with many thin layers, or glazes.

Artists have to work fast because oil paint dries quickly.
