Technology has both positively and negatively impacted family life in our society. But I think the positive effects out way the negative ones. In this term paper, I will focus on how cell phones, the internet, and home security systems. These are only a few of the technology that has affected family life. I will first talk about the positive effects then I will explain the negative effects.
Home security systems are a positive effect on family life. Technology has had a big impact on home security systems. With the new technology in home security, it allows the security system to notify the company and the police faster so the police will be able to get to the house faster to stop the criminal. With some systems, if someone is breaking into the house the system will turn on all the lights in the house to scare off the burglar. A really big positive impact of a home security system is knowing that your family and its belongings will be safe.
Coordination is another positive effect on family life. Say for example you're picking grandma up from the airport. There's a traffic jam on the freeway, you can shoot grandma a text or call and let her know when to expect you instead of grandma standing at the terminal wondering where you are. Phones let someone know plans have changed and have truly helped many.
Now to the negatives.
The biggest negative I can think of is the sedentary lifestyle causing health and social issues. Children are too busy with their gadgets and games that they hardly go out to play. Lately, parents have been giving their children electronics younger and younger. When children are given all they want at the tap of a screen, they find no reason to go outside and play, get some exercise, or socialize with people around them. Which can and will lead to health issues and delayed development.
