Mitosis creates exact copies of the parent cell (the original cell) which is good for asexual reproduction . However meiosis creates gametes that only have one copy of each chromosome. Which is important for sexual reproduction because when an egg and Sperm (types of gametes) combine , you only want 23 pairs of chromosomes, not 46 pairs. If the amount of chromosomes in the gametes did not reduce by half, then the zygote would have too many chromosomes
