Scientists have noted a decline in the number of all mushroom species dating back to the early 1900s. In addition, annual crops of edible mushrooms in France and Germany have declined since 1950. One hypothesis explaining the decline is that edible fungi are being overharvested. Global warming and air pollution have also been considered as part of the problem. What evidence helps to exclude overharvesting as the cause of the overall decline?

Answer:

Annual crops have declined

Step-by-step explanation:

If annual crops have declined that means that the collection of edible mushroom species have been reduced. In other words, the available mushrooms to be collected is less than before. The reduction of the harvested crops is therefore inconsistent with the notion of overharvesting. Overharvesting would imply that the amount of mushrooms being collected has increased which obviously is not the case.
