. A car of mass m = 1000 kg is pushing a truck with a dead battery. The car’s rear tires exert a force of 5000 N on the road. The mass of the truck is 3000 kg. What is the force that the truck exerts on the car?

Answer:

1250 N

Step-by-step explanation:

from the question we were given the following

mass of the car (m) = 1000 kg

mass of the truck (M) = 3000 kg

force exerted by the car (F) = 5000 N

we can get the acceleration of the car from the formula force = mass x acceleration. since the car is pushing the car, we have to add the masses of the car and the truck

5000 = (1000 + 3000) x acceleration

acceleration = 5000 / 4000 = 1.25 m/s^2

now the force of the car on the truck would be the mass of the car x its acceleration

force of the car on the truck = 1000 x 1.25 = 1250 N

According to Newtons third law, action and reaction are equal but opposite.

From the law above the force of the car on the truck is equal to the force of the truck on the car.

therefore

force of the truck on the truck = 1250 N
