Answer: The answer is A ($19)

Explanation:

The total amount spent between the two person = $47.5

If Hector is represented by H

Francis represent by F

Therefore equation 1 = H + F = 47.5

H +F = 47.5 ..........(eqn 1)

From the question

Hector = Francis + 50% Francis

Translating this into an equation we get,

H = F + 0.5F ...... (eqn 2)

Substitute equation 2 into equation 1, we get:

(F + 0.5F) + F = 47.5

Thus 2.5F = 47.5

F = 47.5/2.5 = 19

Since Francis spend is represented by F, the amount spent by Francis is therefore $19 as obtained from our calculation.
