What can Maggie do to help her aunt in the following scenario?

Maggie is helping her aunt Gertrude, who is blind, adjust the Speech Recognition settings on her computer. Gertrude has a heavy southern accent, so that when she says, “Click Recycle Bin” it sounds like “Click Recycle Ban” and the computer does not respond.

1) Tell Gertrude to say “basket” instead of “bin.”
3) Train the computer to recognize Gertrude’s accent.
4) Change the computer’s recognition of the word “bin.”
5) Set up visual alternatives in the Ease of Access Center.

Answer:

Train the computer to recognize Gertrude's accent

Step-by-step explanation:

"Each individual says words slightly differently. This may be due to a regional accent, speaking a nonnative language, vocal tone and character, or subtle differences in pronunciation. Therefore, anyone choosing to use speech recognition software needs to train the computer to understand his or her voice."

This is textual evidence provided in the lesson in which this question is given in.

Answer:

Train the computer to recognize Gertrude’s accent.

Step-by-step explanation:

First make it easier for the computer to understand the accent rather than changing the word, because basket southern may sound something like basset which would be hard to understand still. Helping the computer understand one word is only going to solve one problem so it is best to explain the accent to the computer. Visual alternative will not work either because the computer will not look at one specific point of the picture and will get confused.
