Answer: x = 2

Step-by-step explanation: 2 (x+5) + 4(x-9)= -14. First I distributed 2 through the first parenthesis

2x + 10 + 4(x-9) = -14

Then 4 through the other

2x + 10 + 4x - 36 + -4

Then combined the like terms: 2x, 4x ,and 6x

2x + 10 + 4x - 36 -14 → 6x - 26 = -14

Moved the constant to the right and changed the sign

6x - 26 = -14 → 6x = -14 + 26

After solving that I got 6x = 12

Then divided both sides by 6 to get 2

So the answer is x= 2
