Answer: PespiAmericas were forced to adopt a highly aggressive attitude of using transaction data to run their business due to several reasons such as:

i. The 2009 recession

ii. The Increase in number of product line

iii. The decline in the purchase of carbonated drink by consumers in the United States

iv. Retailers began to squeeze the profit margin of PepsiAmericas

v. High centralized procurement agreements were been preferred by their major chain stores such as CVS and Walmart.

Step-by-step explanation:

i. The 2009 recession affected virtually every business. In order to survive the hit of the recession, many companies were forced to adopt varying strategies to remain in business. For PepsiAmericas, turning to the use of transaction data was one of their tactics to remain in the market during this economic breakdown.

ii. Pepsi added several products to their portfolio and there was a need to handle several transactions emanating from the increasing portfolio. This was one of the reasons for their utilization of transaction data.

iii. The sensitization for healthy products led to a huge decline in the purchase of carbonated drinks by consumers in the United States. Thus, to stay relevant in the market, more product lines were introduced.
