You are in charge of purchasing sandwiches at a local restaurant for your co-workers. You return to work with a bag full of 16 sandwiches: 5 turkey, 4 veggie, 3 roast beef, 2 ham, 1 tuna salad, and 1 pastrami. Pam ordered a veggie sandwich, so you reach your hand into the bag and pull out two sandwiches. Both of the chosen sandwiches are turkey sandwiches. If you leave these two sandwiches out of the bag and reach in again to pull out another sandwich, what is the probability the next sandwich you choose will be a veggie sandwich? Assume when you are reaching into the bag that the remaining sandwiches are well mixed so that you are randomly selecting the next sandwich.

Answer:

0.286

Explanation:

At first attempt 2 turkey sandwiches were pulled and left outside of the bag. We need to calculate the probability of pulling out a veggie sandwich this time.

We have 4 veggie sandwiches in total. That means, there are 4 wanted outcomes.

The total number of posibilities are: 3 turkey sandwich, 4 veggie sandwich, 3 roastbeef, 2 ham, 1 tunasalad and 1 pastrami.

Total number of possibilities = 3 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 14

Probability = number of wanted outcomes/ total number of possibilities

Probability = 4/14

Probability = 0.286
