The enrollment in 2000 at state university is 7375

Solution:

Given that, From 2000 to 2006, the number of students enrolled at a state university increased by 40%.

The number of students enrolled at the university in 2006 was 10,325

We have to find what was the enrollment in 2000?

Students enrolled in 2006 = students enrolled in 2000 + 40% of students enrolled in 2000

\text { students enrolled in } 2006=\text { students enrolled in } 2000 *(1+40 \%)

\begin{array}{l}{10325=\text { students enrolled in } 2000 *\left(1+(40)/(100)\right)} \\\\ {10325=\text { students enrolled in } 2000 *\left(1+(2)/(5)\right)}\end{array}

\begin{array}{l}{10325=\text { students enrolled in } 2000 * (5+2)/(5)} \\\\ {10325=\text { students enrolled in } 2000 * (7)/(5)}\end{array}

\begin{array}{l}{\text { Students enrolled in } 2000=10325 * (5)/(7)} \\\\ {\text { Students enrolled in } 2000=1475 * 5=7375}\end{array}

Hence, 7375 students enrolled in 2000.
