Answer: a. culturally specific principles that govern how and when and to whom we express emotion.

Step-by-step explanation:

Display Rules:

Display rules are cultural norms that guides us on how to express our emotions in the right way. It doesn't only tell an individual where and when to express their emotions appropriately but also to what length these emotions can be expressed

Social norms can sometimes suggest times when an emotion may require to be not expressed but he kept inside.

Some cultures it's only appropriate to cry at a funeral but not at the wedding one must surpress those emotions in a wedding. It a way of controlling the effect of one's emotions on themselves and on others.

For example if you go to visit a sick friend and they are extremely sick that it really looks terrible one can not express their emotions such as being shocked , sad about the situation because of how it will make this other person feel.
