Hey there!

“8x + 7 + 7x – 2 = 90”

• FIRST: COMBINE your LIKE TERMS

(8x + 7x) + (7 – 2) = 90

‘8x + 7x = 15x’

‘7 – 2 = 5x’

“15x + 5 = 90”

• SECOND: SUBTRACT by 5 on BOTH SIDES

15x + 5 – 5 = 90 – 5

CANCEL out: 5 – 5 because that gives you 0

KEEP: 90 – 5 because it helps us solve for your x-value

‘90 – 5 = 85’

NEW EQUATION:

“15x = 85”

• THIRD: DIVIDE by 15 on BOTH SIDES

15x/15 = 85/15

CANCEL out: 15/15 because that equals 1

KEEP: 85/15 because it gives us our x-value

Reduce: 85/15 and it gives us: x

Answer: x = 17/3 ☑️

Good luck on your assignment and enjoy your day!
