During photosynthesis the carbon dioxide(CO2) reacts water (H2O) to form glucose(C6H12O6).Photosynthesis is an anbolic process that means it requires energy.

6CO2+12H2O=C6H12O6+6O2+6H2O

On the other hand during respiration the glucose molecule(C6H12O6) reacts with oxygen(O2) to generate carbon dioxide(CO2),water(H2O) and energy in form of ATP.

C6H12O6+6O2=6CO2+6H2O+ATP
