Only electoral votes count toward determining the next president is the important thing for a presidential candidate to focus on winning the electoral votes.

Option (b);

EXPLANATION:

The "election process" begins with primary elections in which secret ballots are used for voting. Local gatherings cast their vote to their respective parties. Then there are nominating conventions, in which political parties select their nominees and also each presidential nominee announce their vice presidential nominee.

Nominees can then campaign across the country and also get into debates. But the popular votes, i.e. the votes given by Americans do not determine the President. Presidential elections use Electoral college.For winning, candidate must get most of the "electoral votes".
