The art club at school is painting a mural using their school colors. Blue paint comes in a 5-ounce container costing $2 per container. The containers of silver paint hold two ounces and cost $3 per container. The art club spent $56 and bought a total of 74 ounces of paint. How many containers of blue paint and how many containers of silver paint did the art club buy?

The club brought 10 containers of blue paint.

And 12 containers of silver paint.

Explanation:

The cost of blue paint 5 - ounce container = $2

The cost of silver paint 2 - ounce container = $3

Total money spent = $56

Total weight purchased = 74 ounces

Let the number so blue container purchased = x

And the number of silver containers = y

Now, according to the question:

5x +2y = 74

and 2x + 3y = 56

Solving the given system of equations, we get

y = 12

If , y = 12. then x : 5x = 74 - 24 = 50

or, x = 50/5 = 10

So, the value of x = 10, and value of y = 12

Hence, the club brought 10 containers of blue paint.

And 12 containers of silver paint.
