Lashonda is going to rent a truck for one day. There are two companies she can choose from, and they have the following prices. Company A has no initial fee but charges 60 cents for every mile driven. Company B charges an initial fee of $75 and an additional fee of 40 cents for every mile driven. For what mileages will Company A charge more than Company B? Use m for the number of miles driven, and solve your inequality for m.

The mileage for which the company A will charge more is 125

Explanation:

Given as :

The charge of company A = 60 cents per mile

The charge of company B = 40 cents per mile + $75

Now , Let the number of miles driven = m

So, 60 m = 40 m + $ 75

∵ 1 $ = 100 cents

Or , 60 m - 40 m = 75 × 100 cents

Or, 20 m = 7500 cents

∴ m =
(7500)/(20)

or, Number of miles driven = 375 miles

The charge of company A = 60 × 375 = 22,500 cents

The charge of company B = 40 × 375 + 7500 = 22,500 cents

So, Here Both company charge is same

Now Let The mileage for which company charge more = m'

SO, 60 × (375 - m') = 40 × 375

or, 22500 - 60 m'= 15000

Or, 60 m' = 7500

So , m' =
(7500)/(60) = 125

Hence The mileage for which the company A will charge more is 125 Answer
