According to given conditions:

x + y = 50 .......... eq 1

x/y = 4 ................. eq 2

Taking eq 2

x/y = 4

Multiplying both sides by y

y * x/y = 4 * y

x = 4y

Putting value of x in eq 1 we get

x + y = 50

4y + y = 50

5y = 50

Dividing both sides by 5

y = 50/5

y = 10

Putting y = 10 in eq 1 we get

x + y = 50

x + 10 = 50

Subtracting 10 from both sides

x + 10 - 10 = 50 - 10

x = 40

So the numbers are 40 and 10

Proof:

As

40 + 10 = 50

and

40/10 = 4

hence proved
