A 3 digit number has tens digit 2 greater than the units digit and the hundreds digit 1 greater than the tens digit. The sum of the tens and hundreds digit is 3 times the units digit. What is the number?

Explanation:

Let the units digit be 'x'.

So, according to the question,

tens digit = x + 2

hundreds digit = x + 3

also,

⇒ sum of tens and hundreds digit = 3 × the unit digit

⇒ (x + 2) + (x + 3) = 3x

⇒ x = 5.

so,

unit digit = 5

tens digit = 5 + 2 = 7

hundreds digit = 5 + 3 = 8

hence,

the number = (8 × 100) + (7 × 10) + 5

= 875.
