When a teen is learning to drive, often time the parent would be the person in the car with them the most, so, according to the social learning theory, that would make them the model. The teen (the learner) watches how the parent pays attention to the road and doesn’t look at their phone and they take that in and remember that behavior. Then when the teen has the chance to drive they mimic that behavior and then earn positive reinforcement for paying attention and staying off their phone which will end up cementing that positive behavior.
