X is equal to zero because the equation for slope is the change in Y/change in x.
If we plug in the known values and set the equation equal to -2, x is 0. (4-8/2-x=-2 , 4-8/2-0= -4/2 or -2).

You can ask me any questions if my explanation what confusing haha.

Answer:

x = 0

Explanation:

The formula of a slope:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

We have:

the points (2, 4) and (x, 8)

the slope m = -2

Substitute:

-2=(8-4)/(x-2)

-2=(4)/(x-2)

(-2)/(1)=(4)/(x-2) cross multiply

-2(x-2)=(1)(4)

-2(x-2)=4 divide both sides by (-2)

(-2(x-2))/(-2)=(4)/(-2)

x-2=-2 add 2 to both sides

x-2+2=-2+2

x=0
