The value of -4 1/4 - (-2 1/4) using additive inverse property is -2

Solution:

Given, expression is
-4 (1)/(4)-\left(-2 (1)/(4)\right)

We have to find the value of the given expression with the help of additive inverse.

So, now, take the expression

-4 (1)/(4)-\left(-2 (1)/(4)\right)

The product of two negative signs gives a positive sign.

\left.-4 (1)/(4)+2 (1)/(4)\right

Writing
4(1)/(4) as two fractions, out of which one is additive inverse of
2(1)/(4)

-2-2 (1)/(4)+2 (1)/(4)

we know that, sum of additive inverses results 0.

-2 + 0 = -2

Hence, the value of expression is -2.
