At the city museum, child admission is $5.10 and adult admission is $9.70 . On Monday, twice as many adult tickets as child tickets were sold, for a total sales of $612.50. How many child tickets were sold that day?

Answer:

25 child tickets were sold on Monday.

Explanation:

Cost of ticket for a child = $5.10

Cost of ticket for an adult = $9.70

Let the number of child tickets sold be x.

Number of an adult tickets sold = 2x

Total sales on tickets = $612.50

2x* \$9.70+x* \$5.10 =\$612.50

24.5x=612.5

x=(612.5)/(24.5)=25

25 child tickets were sold on Monday.
