Answer:

y = 55 + 8x

255 gallons

Explanation:

Let x be the number of minutes the tank is being filled with water.

A water tank

  • Already contains 55 gallons of water;
  • Water flows into the tank at a rate of 8 gallons per minute;
  • In x minutes, 8x gallons flow into the tank.

Hence, the tank will contain 55 + 8x gallons of water.

If y gallons is the volume of water in the tank after x minutes, then

y = 55 + 8x

When x = 25, then

y=55+8\cdot 25\\ \\y=55+200\\ \\y=255\ gallons
