Perimeter P of rectangle having length = x + 8 and width = y – 1 is 2x + 2y + 14.

Solution:

Need to determine perimeter P, of a rectangle.

Length of rectangle = x + 8

Width of rectangle = y – 1

As length and width are given in expressions, final result of perimeter will also be an expression.

Formula for perimeter of rectangle is as follows

Perimeter of rectangle = 2 (length + width)

On substituting given values in formula of perimeter, we get

P = 2 ((x + 8) + ( y – 1 ) )

=> P = 2( x + 8 + y -1 )

=> P = 2 ( x + y + 7)

=> p = 2x + 2y + 14

Hence perimeter P of rectangle having length = x + 8 and width = y – 1 is 2x + 2y + 14.
