2(1)/(4)

Explanation:

(1)/(4) cup of cornstarch and
1(1)/(8) cup of glue are required for a recipe.

For any two given fractions
(a)/(b) ,
(c)/(d) , the L.C.M is given by
\frac{\textrm{L.C.M of numerators}}{\textrm{H.C.F of denominators}}.

The given fractions are
(1)/(4) and
1(1)/(8) =
\frac{1\textrm{x}8+1}{8}=(9)/(8)

L.C.M of numerators 1 and 9 = 9.

H.C.F of denominators 4 and 8 = 4.

∴ L.C.M of
(1)/(4) and
1(1)/(8) is
(9)/(4) =
2(1)/(4)
