Answer:

If the perimeter of the rectangle is 64 cm then the length is 18 cm and width is 14 cm

Solution:

Need to find the length and width of the rectangle.

Given that length of rectangle is 4 cm longer than it’s width

Let’s assume width of the rectangle = x cm

So length of the rectangle which is 4 cm longer that width = x + 4 cm.

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + width) ------ (1)

Also given that perimeter = 64 cm

Substituting given value of perimeter and assumed value of width and length in equation (1), we get

64 = 2 ((x + 4) + (x))

On solving above expression for x, we get

64 = 2 (2x + 4)

=> 64 = 4x + 8

=> 4x = 64 – 8 = 56

=>x = 14

Width of rectangle = x = 14 cm

Length of rectangle = x + 4 = 14 + 4 = 18 cm

Hence width of rectangle = 14 cm and length of rectangle = 18 cm.
