For safety reasons, the base of a 24-foot ladder must be placed at least 8 feet

from the wall. To the nearest tenth of a foot, how high can a 24-foot ladder
safely reach

c²=a²+b²

24²=8² + x²

576 = 64 + x²

x² = 576 - 64

x² = 512

x = 22.627...

= 22.63 foot
