Answer:

4x + 1 is the simplified expression

Explanation:

We have to use order of operations in order to solve. We basically need to simplify it with multiplication and addition.

The first step involves mulitplication and distribution property:

1) Do 1/2(4x + 2). If you use distribution property, it would be 1/2(4x) + 1/2(2)

2) Then use multiplication 1/2(4x) is 2x (since 4 multiplied by 1/2 is 2) and 1/2(2) is 1 (since 1/2 times 2 is 1).

Bow the expression is almost simplified as it is:

2x + 1 -(-2x)

The 2nd stop involves addition. First we have to know what -(-2x) means. Think of the negative sign on the outside as -1. This way it would be:

3) -1(-2x), and then do -1(-2) which is 2 since a negative times a negative is positive.

4) Now we know that -(-2x) is the same as: + 2x.

5) So the expression would be 2x + 1 + 2x. Combine like terms ( 2x and 2x) and you will get 4x + 1.

Hope you understood this and have a nice day!
