Explanation:

(8x + 12)° and (3x - 8) are adjacent angles and are supplementary, sum to 180°

8x + 12 + 3x - 8 = 180

11x + 4 = 180 ( subtract 4 from both sides )

11x = 176 ( divide both sides by 11 )

x = 16

Then

8x + 12 = 8(16) + 12 = 128 + 12 = 140

(8x + 12) and y are alternate angles and are congruent , so

y = 140
