A sales representative is given a choice of two paycheck plans. One choice includes a monthly base pay of $300 plus 10% commission on his sales. The second choice is a monthly salary of $1200. For what amount of sales would the representative make more money with the first plan.

All I know is this has to do with inequalities. Can someone help me because I honestly don't know.

Answer:

The representative make more money with the first plan for sales greater than $9,000

Explanation:

Let

x -----> monthly sales

y ----> monthly salary

we know that

First Choice

remember that

10\%=10/100=0.10

y=0.10x+300 ----> equation A

Second Choice

y=1,200 ----> equation B

The inequality that represent this situation is

First Choice > Second Choice

substitute

0.10x+300 > 1,200

Solve for x

Subtract 300 both sides

0.10x+300-300 > 1,200-300

0.10x > 900

Divide by 0.10 both sides

x > \$9,000

therefore

The representative make more money with the first plan for sales greater than $9,000
